Praise the Lord, my soul!
To receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, a child must have completed a consistant sacramental preparation program. This begins in the first grade in order for candidates to be confirmed in eighth grade. Candidates for Confirmation must perform service activities as part of the requirement for receiving the sacrament. Parents are required to attend a minimum of two meetings about the Confirmation program in addition to their obligation to witness and share in the journey of their children who are becoming full members of the Christian community.
Sponsors bring the candidates to receive the sacrament, present them to the minister for anointing, and later help them to fulfill their baptismal promises. To be permitted to take on the function of a sponsor, a person must have completed the sixteenth year of age, be a practicing Catholic who has been Confirmed, and not be bound by any canonical penalty legitimately imposed or declared, such as divorce or excommunication.
